Khenpo Ngawang Gyaltsen, the first ever Khenpo of Sakya Centre, entered the order of the Sangha at the age of 10 years old. He was ordained by H.E. Luding Kenchen Rinpoche and at the same time received the uncommon Lamdre Lobsheg at Puruwala in 1980.

For the next 7 years, he resided in Sakya Centre, concentrating fully on the study and training in rituals, and before he reached 17 had completed all the courses.

Then in 1987, he was enrolled into the Sakya Institute to acquire a full knowledge in the Buddhadharma by training himself efficiently in the Buddhist Philosophy, Logic, debate and others. He graduated in 1996 and continued to stay at the Institute as a teacher giving lectures to the students. He stayed there for a total of twelve years.

He had traveled toRussiaand gave teaching to the Sakya members there for 2 months in 1996, and also had been in charge as a Khenpo in the 2001 Summer Retreat. Currently he is giving teachings of the Buddhadharma to the more advanced monks in the Sakya Centre.

Khenpola speaks English well and have been to the States for several years before. He is invited as one of the panel of teachers to give teachings on topics related to the Three Visions, and although this is his first visit, will deliver the lecture in English.
